North Central District Health Department is collecting donations for its Cribs for Kids program now through Sept. 30. NCDHD can continue to provide safe sleeping areas and education to parents within its district (Shelby, Henry, Spencer, and Trimble Counties). NCDHD matches every dollar donated by Sept. 30.

The Shelby County Public Library Bookmobile community stops are at three locations every other week; Simpsonville, Waddy, and Bagdad. The rest of the spring schedule and the summer schedule follows:

• Simpsonville at The Feed Bucket from 11 a.m. to noon on Aug. 29.

• Waddy Baptist Church from 11 a.m. to noon on Aug. 23.

• Old Bagdad Fire Dept. from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Aug. 24.

Tyson’s Chance will partner with the Channel Cat Fish House on Thursday, August 24 from 5 — 8 p.m. for a percentage night fundraiser. Come out and support a local restaurant and a great cause. Fifteen percent will be donated to Tyson’s Chance.

Clay Street Baptist Church will host a community choir rehearsal on Aug. 24 and Aug. 31 at 6:30 p.m. at the church, 1940 Midland Trail in Shelbyville. Rehearsal is for Gospel Fest on Labor Day, Sept. 4 at 3 p.m., the Shelby County Fairgrounds. This event is part of the Labor Day Community Festival. Gates open at noon. The concert is through the Norris and Teresa Beckley Foundation.

Music on the Lawn will occur Thursday, Aug. 24 from 6 — 7 p.m. Music from the 70s by Lewis Mathis and Family’s most recent ensemble, The Bohemian Parachutes, “bringing the 70s floating down gently to earth.” Entertainment will be on the library’s front lawn, so bring a chair or blanket. In case of inclement weather, the program will be held across the street inside the Carnegie Library Center.

North Central District Health Dept. announces a Rabies Clinic with Magnolia Animal Clinic from 8 a.m. to noon on Aug. 26 at the Shelby County Health Department, 615 11th St., Shelbyville. Backyard Bird Identification with Frankfort Audubon Society’s President Nour Salam, Saturday Aug. 26 from 11 a.m. — noon at Carnegie Library Center.

Join the Frankfort Audubon Society for a backyard bird identification workshop to learn visual and audio cues for identifying some year-round residents, as well as a few migrant bird feeder visitors. All ages are welcome. Presented by Nour Salam, an avid birdwatcher for the last 5 years. No Registration necessary.

Learn the history of Bagdad Cemetery Aug. 26 from 9 a.m. — noon. Participants will be guided to restore monuments from the 1800s to early 1900s, 5177 Elmburg Rd. in Bagdad. Shelby County Public Library hosts Crop Swap every Monday between Aug. 28-Sept. 18 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Carnegie Library Center.

Share your garden’s bounty at the library’s first ever Crop Swap. Think farmers market without the financial element. North Central District Health Department is hosting webinars as part of its Operation Parent.

First up is Digital Parenting on Aug. 29 to help parents become the tech expert in the home, with Sarah Kimmel from Family Tech.

Peer to Peer Suicide Prevention is Sept. 12, to discover the importance of peer to peer support with Tam Larnerd from Hope Squad.

Making the Internet Safe is Sept. 16. Parents can learn how to dive deeper into internet safety practices to use in the home with Sarah Kimmell.

The Norris & Teretha Beckley Foundation presents Labor Day Community Festival on Monday, Sept. 4. There will be a parade at 10:30 a.m. and gates open at noon at the Shelby County Fairgrounds, 1513 Midland Trail in Shelbyville. Music, food trucks, vendors, community choir and a local soloist gospel concert, games and giveaways. Musical guest Benny J and Friends with vocalist Sidney Johnson starting at 4 p.m. Guest DJ to be announced., Admission fee is $5. For more information, call 502-321-4620.

Shelby County Community Theatre announces its upcoming youth production of “Disney’s Frozen Jr.,” music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, book by Jennifer Lee. Performances are Sept. 7, 8, 9, 14, 15 and 16 at 7:30 p.m., and Sept. 10 and 17 at 2:30 p.m. All tickets for this production are $15. All patrons are required to have a ticket. North Central District Health Department is hosting Living with Diabetes to encourage healthy eating and develop an activity plan that works for the individual. Friends of Grove Hill will be restoring and cleaning monuments from 9 a.m. until participants are tired on Sept. 15 and 16. Beginner’s cleaning kits are necessary for first-timers for a $20 donation. Mohair workshop

A Spinning Mohair Workshop will be held Sunday, Sept. 17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the benefit of a nonprofit. Held at The Little Loomhouse at Breezy Hill Farm in Simpsonville. Finchville Fall Fest

The Finchville Fall Festival will be Saturday, Sept. 23 from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.at the Ruritan Club, 5596 Taylorsville Road in Finchville. There will be a country breakfast, silent auction, cakewalk, games, bounce houses and train rides for kids. A household hazardous waste collection event will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 7 at 120 Midland Blvd. The event, sponsored by the City of Shelbyville, Shelby County and Kentucky Division of Waste Management is free to all Shelby County residents. Fall Break Theatre Camp

Shelby County Community Theatre will hold a Fall Break Theatre Camp Oct. 9-13 for kids aged 7-14. Seven- to 10-year-olds will meet from 9 a.m. to noon and 11- to 14-year-olds will meet from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost is $150 per student and the instructor is Emily Kees. Are you interested in finding out more about your family tree? Visit the Kentucky Room on the lowest level of the Shelby County Public Library (on the same level as the Children’s/Youth Department) and discover available genealogy and history resources. Make an appointment with the library’s resident genealogist, Sarahbeth, for one-on-one assistance by either calling the library, 633-3803, or emailing her at [email protected]. Her work hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You may “meet” fascinating ancestors you never knew you had.

The Wednesday Farmers Market on Main Street in Shelbyville is at Stargazer Plaza, 612 Main St., from 5:30-7:30 p.m. each Wednesday through Nov. 1.

Simpsonville’s Wednesday Farmers Market is each Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at Wiche Park Pavilion, 7012-7022 US-60 in downtown Simpsonville. Ends Oct. 25.

Veterans Night

NABVets and Veterans Rural Outreach host help sessions for veteran benefit claims the first and third Saturday of each month from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Veteran’s Village meeting house, 506 Bradshaw St. in Shelbyville. Arts meeting

North Central District Health Department and the SUDS coalition collaborated with community partners to help get free Narcan and fentanyl test strip bundles to those in need. Volunteers needed

Multi Purpose Community Action Agency is in need of volunteers to deliver meals to homebound seniors. Meals are delivered on Mondays and Wednesdays. It is usually about a two-hour commitment, and the volunteer must provide their own transportation. Most of the meal delivery is within the Shelbyville city limits. Contact Sabrina or Pat at the senior center, 502-633-2218, on Monday, Wednesday or Friday. Adults over 60 can join MPCAA for lunch, socialization, and fun activities at the senior center. ALC pregnancy resourceA Loving Choice Pregnancy Resource Center, provides help/hope to women and families facing or have experienced a crisis/unplanned pregnancy. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday at 711 Henry Clay St., behind Operation Care on Main Street. Head Start

Senior services, program

Patriot Guard riders

A volunteer non-profit organization protecting loved ones from protesters at memorial services honoring fallen military service members and provides a final salute at funerals of first responders/honorably discharged veterans.
